I was lucky enough to sit down and have a chat with the wonderful Danielle. I had been following her for sometime and thought her story was an inspiration to the dreamer! She was nice enough to give up her time to answer all these questions! I hope you guys enjoy! Sunny

A short intro of who is Danielle and what does she do?

I was born Melbourne, Australia. I’m 25 years old. My mother is Italian and my father is Swiss.

How did you get started?

It's taken me about 6 years to get where I am. It all started when a friend’s mother asked me to do a piece for her and I put it on Facebook. Social media is definitely the way to gain exposure. For the first 3 or so years I was studying full time, working 2 jobs and giving my paintings away for free. Then I gradually started to charge and then started to come to the realisation that I could make something of my art.

What were the challenges you encountered when starting up?

I guess one of my biggest battles was turning my hobby and passion into a job. I think everyone has their days in any job they may do. Remaining motivated and producing consistently is challenging when you’re your own boss. I have had long periods of time where I wasn't motivated and maybe I had thoughts to give up. If I have had these thoughts they wouldn't last long as I know how much hard word I've put into this therefore I'd never give it up. Art is something that not everyone understands. Some people think it just 'happens' and want their commissioned pieces quickly. I've also had clients not pay for work, and clients change their minds 3/4 of the way through the painting. It's also difficult to deal with other artists sometimes. Everyone has different visions.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to pursue a passion?

Never let anyone tell you that your art won’t make you a living. What's the worst that can happen? Create as much as you can, whenever you can. Use Social media to your advantage. In this day and age, marketing is key to being successful and putting yourself out there. People will see your passion, determination and drive and will support your journey and recognise your improvements. Your fan base are so important as they help keep you motivated to create more and better.

To what do you attribute your success?

I have always loved art but I was sure I would never make a living out of it. My mum has always been very artistic and seeing her talent inspired me as a child. My mum is the one who encouraged me to do what I love and pursue my art. I get to do what I love everyday and I owe my current and future successes to her. In a way, being told it was something I couldn't accomplish also motivated me to succeed even more. The joy and appreciation that my art brings out in clients, family and friends inspires me every single day.

How do balance work and life?

When you own your own business, ‘9-5’ does not exist. Sometimes I get up and get stuck into work and forget to eat breakfast. My friends are incredibly supportive; they know that if they want to see me it will generally consist of watching me paint. I definitely forget to sleep and a lot of the time I lose track of time painting and before I know it it’s 6am. I do however take regular breaks, and go for weeks away so physically I can have a break.

Who inspires you and why?

My mother is definitely one of my biggest inspirations. Her drive and desire to help and inspire everyone who crosses her path. And always encouraging people to follow what they love. Dwayne Johnson because he came from nothing, has been through so much and is always ‘the hardest worker in the room’.

AND how did you get to meet Dwayne Johnson???

I really enjoy painting celebrities as people can recognise them and enjoy them as I do. Dwayne Johnson came across my work about 6 months ago after he had seen a painting of himself. He loved it, re-shared the finished painting and started following my personal Instagram. I was so appreciative of him taking the time to recognised and write to me so I decided to do a painting for him. I chose to paint him and his mum as I thought would be most sentimental and would mean a lot to him. I went on a mission to deliver the painting to him in Boston, USA along with Cuban Cigars and rum. He is an incredible person. He is so kind and genuine and a true inspiration to myself and many others.

Whats your Grand Ambition?

My Grand Ambition would be to start developing my own style, traveling around the world to paint, and looking into opening my own gallery or running solo one off themed exhibitions. I also want to become a motivational speaker.
